E46 Update

Last week I told you that my E46 left me stranded for the first time in 9 years.

Annnnnnd as some of you assumed, it’s a throttle actuator. One of three actually. Two are really accessible and relatively inexpensive, and the other one requires removing the manifold and is really expensive. Guess which one failed?

$1400 for that plus the $600 and change we spent on a tow/rental is really adding up just because I wanted to drive it to VA for the long weekend. All of this and I’m taking the car back with two nails still in the rear tire!

$1400? Couldn’t you get one from the wreckers for $14?

Oh haha yea maybe, but then it would be up to me to replace it and I don’t have the time or tools.

There’s more than one throttle actuator? Aren’t they all linked? This is just me looking at the parts diagram for the throttles and the actuator , not any hands-on experience with the S54. A new one with new TPS is $632 at ECS ...was that including labor?

Also this is why I have towing & rental coverage on my insurance. It’s maybe an extra 20 bucks a year.

I’m not sure if the other two are actuators or what, yes including labor.

That sucks. Glad you got it fixed though. After a week or so of driving it you’ll forget all about it and all will be forgiven.
